This is a library of perfboard and single-sided PCB effect layouts for guitar and bass. I'm not an electrical engineer by any stretch of the imagination, just a DIY'er who likes drawing layouts. It is meant for the hobbyist (so commercial use of any of these layout is not allowed without permission) and as a way to give back to the online DIY community.

Wampler Tweed '57

Here's another (and more complicated) amp emulator, and another great design from Brian Wampler. This one stacks JFET stages much like the Cranked AC. It emulates a dirty Fender tube amp with a 3-band tone stack. I added trimmers so it's easier to bias the JFETs and it's laid out for board mounted pots in a 125B enclosure.

  3. Can't you just build the madbean layout on perf instead of a pcb?

    1. Not really, the traces on the Madbean pcb are a lot smaller than perf hole spacing, so if you just transferred directly to perf, it wouldn't even fit in a 1590BB. The stripboard layout I posted above is reasonably sized, just do that one.

  5. If you go the smd route you can get them at Tayda for 17 cents a piece. (I think). You have to get adaptors though. You can get them from OSH park if you don't want to etch them yourself. They are better and cheaper than the adaptors you can get on evilbay ��

  7. Which smd is used in place of the j201 and will the results be the same?

    1. MMBFJ201 is the SMD equivalent. Results will be the same as through hole J201s (possibly better considering the inconsistency of through hole J201s available).

    1. You should be able to. For the 1uF directly above Q6 the positive side should connect to the trimmer next to it, and for the 1uF to the right of Q6, the positive side should connect to the middle pin of Q6 (the source).

  10. My problem is 2N5457 sounds much louder than my J201. I'm confused why because according to the forum, j201 have much more gain.

    I tried making tweed '57.

    In conclusion, it didn't work.
    Only when you play strongly the guitar, noise is a little out state.

    Can you find the cause by measuring the voltage of the FET?

  14. How do you set your trimpots? How do you calculate de voltaje passing which one and what is the setup correctly for this pedal? I have done a couple of pedals and this works just perfectly but I don't know so much about electronics, so I don't know how to set up this trimpots... Should someone teach me? I'm from Argentina.
